Main duties of the job

Work as an important member of the Multidisciplinary Team within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust providing specialist nursing advice and support to patients and their family, throughout the care pathway.

The post holder will utilise skills of clinical expertise, education, and management to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers, and staff providing advice, support, and information.

You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team in hospital and across the community to ensure a coordinated quality service and will be actively involved in education, audit, and research.

The post holder will engage and lead discussions in multidisciplinary team meetings and ensure a high quality, holistic approach to the management of the patient’s pathway is maintained.

Qualifications
  • Registered General Nurse (valid with NMC)
  • Educated to degree Level or demonstrable qualification or significant demonstrable and relevant experience working in an NHS organisation.
  • Evidence of post registration academic development.
  • To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualificationn
  • Evidence of IT experience.
  • Advanced Communication Skills course
  • Additional professional course/qualification relevant to the speciality
  • Fundamentals of Cancer Care module Postgraduate level
  • Independent and supplementary prescribing and or Advanced Physical Assessment skills

    • Substantial post registered experience in a managerial role/leadership role
    • Relevant experience of caring for patients with cancer whether that be at the diagnostic phase, surgery, non-surgical oncology or on-going treatment and care.
    • Evidence of autonomous practice
    • Excellent organisational and time keeping skills.
    • Counselling skills/ Level II Psychology training
    • Ability to manage change effectively.
    • Ability to work independently/autonomously and across disciplines as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Experience of audit and research
    • External working including GPs and PCT
    • Experience of patient examination and history taking
    • Experience of working in Nurse Led Clinics
    • Knowledge of national agenda on improving cancer services

    • Demonstrate knowledge of urological cancer progression and different treatment options
    • Advanced communication/ interpersonal skills both written and verbal
    • Computer literacy and ability to use online platforms, excel, office etc.
    • Knowledge of audit, research, and clinical governance
    • Analytical and judgemental skills
    • Knowledge of the key professional issues and guidelines relating to professional practice
    • Experience of applying research evidence to clinical practice
    • Strong organisational skills with ability to meet deadlines
    • Understanding of equality and diversity and its application to managing self, staff and patients within own area.
