Job description

We respect the need for a work life balance, especially within the veterinary industry and we have created a part‑time role for a veterinary surgeon looking for 2 days per week in Acton.

About your new role!
Acton is set in an old bank complete with original vault and is also part of the ISFM cat friendly scheme and is proud to be involved with lots of work for the Cats Protection Charity, so this role will be purrfect for our vets with a feline bias!

You will be working alongside a senior vet on one of your days conducting consultations, performing routine surgeries and triaging any emergencies that may arise. You have a fantastic established nursing team including experienced RVNs for your go to support! You will also be fully supported by an incredibly experienced regional manager, and regional head vet.

This GP first opinion role involves working Mondays and Tuesdays plus a 1:4 branch Saturday and 1:16 hospital Sunday rotation, plus 1 bank holiday per year.

There are NO on‑call requirements.

The Mandeville Veterinary Hospital in Northolt provides out of hours support for Acton. This impressive hospital has state of the art 24 hr facilities including CT, excellent ultrasound facilities, scopes, laparoscopic equipment, and an array of specialists, so your patients will be well looked after if they needed more advanced treatment, or an overnight stay.

As a branch veterinary surgeon, some of your duties will include:

  • Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations which are based on best practice and are evidence‑based and in accordance with GVG protocols.
  • Perform surgery on cases as appropriate and within boundaries of personal competence and limitation of overnight care.
  • Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with appropriate current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
  • Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure that pets’ histories are accurate comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
  • Be prepared to refer cases in a timely manner, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital, when there is an inability to undertake a case for whatever reason.
  • Help to maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.

The practice could not have a more ideal location, being literally opposite the Acton underground station on the Elizabeth Tube Line, which takes you straight into central and east London in one direction, and through to Heathrow airport in the other for those much‑needed getaways!

Now let’s get to the nitty gritty, here is what we offer you:
The salary for this part‑time role inclusive of weekend rotation is £25,312 to £33,855 (£45,000 to £61,000 FTE) depending on experience and allowing room for growth within the role.

If you were wishing for extra hours, this can of course be explored in the region!
