At Severn Trent, our purpose is taking care of life’s essentials—and we’re passionate about making a difference. Not just because we should, but because we care.
As we enter AMP8, our most ambitious five-year investment programme yet—nearly £13bn, with £6bn dedicated to capital projects—we’re embracing innovation like never before. Our new Plug and Play approach is transforming how we deliver infrastructure: modular, scalable, and smart.
Our new Plug and Play approach will be a collection of common parts that can be connected in different ways and work together (like mechanical skids, modular frames, and packaged treatment units). They can be mixed and matched to create a whole range of different products.
We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Plug and Play team and help shape the future of water and wastewater infrastructure.
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll lead the development of innovative mechanical systems and modular solutions from concept through to detailed design. You’ll work across multidisciplinary teams to create standardised, repeatable, and efficient mechanical designs that are safe, reliable, and future ready. You’ll lead the mechanical design process, including specifications, optioneering, and detailed design. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders to understand project requirements and translate them into robust mechanical solutions. You’ll support early stage commissioning planning and ensure designs meet regulatory, safety, and operational standards. You’ll continuously improve standard designs based on feedback, risk assessments, and performance data. You’ll ensure seamless integration between product design and site implementation teams.
We value character, positivity and a caring attitude in equal weight, and we look for people who show up and roll their sleeves up. We want design-focused mechanical engineers with a passion for infrastructure, modular engineering, and innovation.
We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We employ thousands of people from across our community who really care about what they do. Because that is how we do what we do. And when it comes to inclusion, we’re making sure we keep up the progress with our wonderful working groups – LGBTQ+, Women in Operations & STEM, Disability and Ethnicity, who help us do just that.
Working here isn’t just a job. You can build a career at Severn Trent. We’ll reward you for it, too. We have a range of benefits that recognise great work, and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the communities where we live.
We can’t wait to hear from you. Before you apply, you’ll need an updated copy of your CV and about five minutes to spare. If you want to find out more, search #LifeAtSevernTrenton on social media.
