A community-focused church in Welwyn Garden City is seeking a Second Minister to help realize its mission of being a beacon of hope. The role involves pastoral leadership, oversight of specific ministries, and collaborative preaching. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills, alongside theological training. Christchurch Baptist is a lively, biblically based, community‑focused church seeking to reach people who are not used to church and help them grow as disciples! Our dream is to see lives and communities throughout Welwyn Garden City transformed by God’s love.
We have a vacancy for a Second Minister who will help us live out our vision to be beacon of hope in Jesus’ name.
We currently operate from two sites, Parkway, the original church building, and Peartree, a refurbished office block, each about a 10 minute walk from the town centre. We welcome an average Sunday morning congregation of 280‑300 children & adults across the two sites with a current membership of 204.
The congregation includes families and many single people. Each age group is well‑represented and there is a diverse ethnic mix, which includes a number of asylum seekers.
We are committed to serving God within the local community. We have a good reputation for ministry with children, young people and senior citizens and we cooperate actively with other local churches. The local council are very positive about the work we do. We have a relational approach to overseas mission support. We are a silver Ecochurch with ambitions for gold.
We are celebrating our centenary in September 2028. The Second Minister will work alongside the Senior Minister (Team Leader) and be a member of the Leadership Team (Trustees). They will be a key part in enabling aspects of the church’s forward vision to become reality.
The Senior Minister and Second Minister work together and share overall pastoral responsibility for the church. Specific leadership of activities across the church is shared between them in a way that best fits their gifts and passions, and it is envisaged that the person appointed will line manage two members of staff. It is very much a team ministry.
