A municipal authority in London is looking for an Operative Ranger for a permanent position based at West Ham Park. The role involves ensuring the safety and cleanliness of open spaces, interacting with visitors, and working tirelessly to maintain high standards for the Green Flag Award. Salary: £33,047 – £36,244
Contractual Hours: 37 hrs per week (4 on, 4 off rolling shift pattern)

The City of London Corporation manages 11,000 acres (approximately 4,500 hectares) of land in and around London that is enjoyed by over 16 million visitors annually. Whilst there are small pockets of land within the Square Mile, the majority can be found elsewhere in London and the surrounding counties. The City Corporation acts as Trustee of 10 charities which, through their various objects, are responsible for the preservation in perpetuity of a large proportion of these award‑winning open spaces.
The Operative Ranger is the frontline face of our open spaces and is critical to ensuring a safe, welcoming customer experience for all users while maintaining the high standards required for the Green Flag Award and other nationally recognised standards. The Operative Ranger will play a dynamic role in supporting existing teams to keep the parks clean and safe, engaging with visitors and community groups, continuing the upkeep of sports pitches and facilities, and supporting events and entertainment across the department.
You will have a full clean driving licence. You have a good understanding of health & safety within a work environment. You have the relevant certification to operate machinery and tools. You will have demonstrable experience working in a fast‑paced open spaces environment. You have good communication skills, can follow company policies and procedures, and provide accurate updates to your line manager both written and verbal. You show initiative and work well in a team. You are flexible, calm under pressure and have a can‑do approach to working outdoors.
