A prestigious veterinary hospital in the UK is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join their Out of Hours team. The role offers excellent work-life balance, clinical support, and outstanding facilities. Responsibilities include managing emergency cases and providing inpatient care. The position offers a competitive salary of £60,000–£70,000 plus numerous benefits including CPD allowance and family leave policies. This is a unique opportunity to work within a collaborative and progressive clinical environment.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join a well-established Out of Hours team at a highly regarded Tier 3 hospital. This permanent role offers an excellent work–life balance, a supportive clinical environment, and access to outstanding facilities and expertise. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing emergency presentations and inpatients overnight, supported by a dedicated nursing team who work the same rota to ensure seamless continuity of care.
This role would suit a vet who enjoys emergency and critical care and values both autonomy and strong team support.
The hospital holds Tier 3 status and enjoys an excellent local reputation. It operates as a hybrid between first-opinion and referral practice, supported by extensive facilities and a highly experienced veterinary team. The practice currently employs 17 veterinary surgeons, a mix of full-time and part-time colleagues, and this role is available due to an upcoming relocation of a valued team member.
Comprehensive in-house laboratory, including advanced endocrinology, coagulation testing, and rapid haematology/cytology interpretation. An exciting hospital extension is scheduled for completion in early spring, which will include the installation of a CT scanner, further enhancing diagnostic capabilities.
The practice is proud to deliver exceptional first-opinion care through a multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach. The veterinary team includes multiple certificate holders in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia, and Dermatology, with additional colleagues currently working toward certificates in Surgery, Imaging, Internal Medicine, and Endoscopy. Advanced procedures are routinely performed in-house, including BOAS surgery, TPLO/CCWO, patella surgery, fracture repair, cholecystectomy, liver lobe resection, and TECAs. Additional services such as laser therapy, acupuncture, and physiotherapy are also available. Individual development is strongly encouraged, and the team ethos centres on collaboration, support, and continuous improvement.
The hospital is home to a friendly, like-minded group of professionals who share a commitment to treating every patient as if they were their own. The wider team includes: 17 Veterinary Surgeons, 23 Nurses and 16 Support Colleagues. The veterinary team is led by an experienced leadership group with advanced qualifications and a strong focus on mentorship and clinical standards.
Located in a welcoming town, the practice sits midway between Nottingham and Derby. With excellent transport links—including easy access to the M1, a local train station, reliable bus services, and proximity to East Midlands Airport—the area is ideal for commuters while still offering a strong sense of community.
And lots more! This is a rare opportunity to join a progressive, well-equipped hospital with a strong clinical reputation, an outstanding team, and a rota designed to protect work–life balance.
