Director of Residence Life and the Student Center

Northern State University is seeking a student-centered, dynamic, and dedicated leader to serve as the Director of Residence Life and the Student Center. Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Director will play a pivotal role in enhancing the student experience and fostering a vibrant, inclusive campus community. This is a unique opportunity to build upon South Dakota’s top-rated residence halls, implement innovative housing technology, and contribute meaningfully to the execution of the Student Affairs Strategic Plan (2025–30). The successful candidate will help shape the future of student engagement, lead transformative initiatives, and support institutional growth through strategic leadership and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure safe, comfortable, affordable, and appealing housing options for students living on campus and manage the summer camp and conference program.
  • Serve as the building manager for the Student Center, fostering a vibrant “campus living room” that promotes engagement, community, services, and recreation in alignment with the University’s mission.
  • Collaborate as an essential member of the Student Affairs team, committed to providing high-quality care and support for students.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration, Counseling, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Five or more years’ experience working in a housing and residence life program.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in program development and management, with case management experience.
Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills, supervision and project management.
  • Program development through assessment, planning, and implementation including research, statistical analysis, program development, and program evaluation.
  • Ability to relate empathetically and effectively with a variety of people.
  • Excellent interpersonal and group communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and build successful teams.
