The Controls & Commissioning Engineer role is a hands-on technical position designed for professionals who specialize in software development, system integration, and commissioning within automated warehousing or logistics environments. This opportunity offers contract-based employment on multiple projects across the United Kingdom, starting in January 2026, with openings in Oxford, Hull, Birmingham, Leicester, and Daventry.
As a Controls & Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for configuring, testing, and commissioning automation systems, ensuring they perform according to design specifications. Projects involve synchronized automation between conveyors, robotic arms, sensors, and control networks, with responsibilities including integrating hardware and software, troubleshooting real-time system behavior, and ensuring safe and efficient operation.
Engineers will work on rotation-based schedules with both day and night shifts available. Projects are fast-paced and require hands-on interaction with automation systems in large distribution centers and warehouses. Flexibility, problem-solving aptitude, and technical precision are critical for this role.
The role requires collaboration with vendors, contractors, and client representatives to align commissioning progress with project milestones and to apply both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise to ensure reliable operation of PLCs, motion control devices, and associated systems.
This opportunity provides exposure to advanced logistics automation technologies powered by Siemens TIA Portal, SCADA visualization, and distributed control networks.
For engineers passionate about automation, robotics, and control systems, this position serves as a stepping stone toward higher-level engineering roles such as Lead Commissioning Engineer, Project Engineer, or Automation Specialist.
To be considered for the Controls & Commissioning Engineer position, candidates must meet the following educational, professional, and technical qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or Control Systems Engineering. Candidates with vocational certifications and significant industrial experience will also be considered.
Hands-on experience in automation, controls, or commissioning—particularly in logistics, material handling, or industrial warehousing environments. A minimum of 2–5 years of relevant experience is recommended, though candidates with strong Siemens programming backgrounds may be considered with less experience.
NTWRX Recruitment values professionals who demonstrate both technical mastery and operational reliability. Engineers joining these projects will gain exposure to high-performance industrial systems while working alongside experienced automation specialists. The company’s goal is not only to fill project requirements but to build lasting relationships with skilled engineers who can contribute to ongoing and future assignments across the UK and beyond.
Project locations include: Oxford, Hull, Birmingham, Leicester, Daventry.
