Consultant Psychiatrist, HTT, North West (attracts £25K RRP)
Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is a General Medical Council (GMC) Sponsor Employer inviting applications for a dedicated and compassionate Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Northwest Surrey Home Treatment Team (HTT) based at Two Bridges in Chertsey. The role offers a Recruitment and Retention payment of £25,000 (pro‑rata for part‑time staff) and an £8,000 relocation allowance.
Main duties of the job
- Provide consultant psychiatric input and clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Deliver expert assessments, treatment planning, and support for early hospital discharge.
- Collaborate closely with local teams, services and carers, ensuring effective handover across Surrey.
- Interface with Inpatient Acute Services, Single Point of Access Triage Services, Section 136 Places of Safety, Community Services, Liaison Services, and the Criminal Justice System.
- Attend 2–3 outpatient clinics per week and 2–3 emergency/domiciliary visits per week (full‑time).

Essential Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
- Full medical registration with a licence to practice
- Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 6–12 months of interview) or equivalent
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register (or within six months)
- In good standing with GMC regarding warnings and conditions on practice
Desirable Qualifications
- Relevant higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc or other clinical qualifications)
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills
- Approved clinician status (or ability to achieve within three months of appointment)
Essential Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health guidance and literature and its implications for clinical practice
- Knowledge of NHS strategic vision in the Next Stage Review (High‑Quality Care for All)
- Excellent bio‑psycho‑social clinical skills and broad medical knowledge
- Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
- Experience working across community, inpatient and specialist settings, with people of diverse clinical severity
- Knowledge of psychiatric provision and ability to meet duties under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
Desirable Clinical Skills
- Broad specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to an NHS role
- Experience in management and leadership
- Specific training qualifications or attendance on recognised teaching courses
- Peer review or research publications
- Published audit or research projects
Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning
- Ability to take a clinical leadership role in an MDT, ensuring high‑quality care
- Negotiation skills with patients, relatives and professionals where opinions differ
- High‑level communication skills in written and oral form to patients, families, carers and diverse audiences
- Ability to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
