Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

As a Consultant, you’ll know what it means to lead a team. To always strive for better. This is a great opportunity to join an established medical team at Bradley Complex Care and make a real difference to those with developmental disorders.

You will act as the Responsible Clinician / Consultant Psychiatrist for inpatients at the service. You will have CCT/specialist expertise in Learning Disability or Forensic psychiatry and experience of working with and leading multidisciplinary teams.

As the Consultant Psychiatrist, you will play a key role in assessment, risk management, treatment planning, and timely discharge of service users, ensuring care is delivered in accordance with the Mental Health Act (MHA), relevant NICE guidance, and local and national standards.

Bradley Complex Care provides a specialist service for adults living with complex needs who may have a primary diagnosis of learning disability, mental illness or personality disorder. They may detained under the Mental Health Act.

The environment is a unique element of the service at Bradley Complex Care. We provide care in a range of small, shared gender‑specific or single person apartments. This allows the treatment and rehabilitation programme to be delivered in a domestic environment which replicates community living more closely. These settings also allow bespoke care to be delivered for the individual. Service users have established care pathways and are well supported by a full complement of multidisciplinary team.

You will be joining an established multidisciplinary team and wider network of Consultants in Elysium. The hospital has excellent transport links and is in close proximity to amenities in the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the adequate working of the Care Programme Approach (CPA) for patients.
  • Work constructively with other multi-disciplinary professionals to ensure good patient care and throughput.
  • If needed escape to Regional Directors any clinical concerns, within the region.
  • Provide clinical leadership to clinical teams including through effective teambuilding and facilitation.
  • Contribute to the training, education and development of staff of all disciplines.
  • Ensure medical and clinical voice is represented in hospital clinical governance meetings.
  • Ensure effective and efficient delivery of quality medical services.
  • Safe and appropriate implementation of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
  • Liaison with external agencies who are stakeholders in patient care.
  • Support compliance with CQC/HIW standards.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • To hold MRCPsych or equivalent
  • CCT in general adult psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, psychiatry of LD or within 6 months of attainment
  • We will consider experienced candidates who are not on the specialist register but have AC status (or eligible to obtain)
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practise
  • Proven MDT leadership and communication skills
  • Strong clinical and risk Management skills in acute inpatient psychiatry
  • Previous experience in managing inpatients with developmental disabilities. Working in secure or inpatient ward settings (Desirable)
  • Experience working in trauma-informed and least restrictive settings (Desirable)
