Overview

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (Head and Neck Surgery) with a specialist interest in Head and Neck Oncology, including Micro-Vascular Surgery. This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, patient-focused care across Dorset. The appointee will contribute to the integration and reconfiguration of emergency and elective care pathways, and will work across multiple sites as part of the Dorset Clinical Service Review.

Location: Dorset with planned relocation to the Bournemouth site during November 2025. The role may involve travel between sites and participation in the on-call rota to cover urgent and emergency OMFS cases.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a varied clinical workload, including inpatient and outpatient care, theatre sessions, and multidisciplinary meetings, with a focus on head and neck oncology and reconstructive microvascular procedures.
  • Participate in the emergency on-call rota to provide comprehensive care for urgent and emergency OMFS cases, including microvascular and general surgery needs.
  • Contribute to teaching, training, and research initiatives; mentor junior staff, teach medical students, and collaborate with Bournemouth University to support educational and research objectives.
  • Engage in service development activities as part of the Trust’s strategy to transform healthcare delivery and improve patient pathways.
  • Work within multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) and maintain high standards of clinical governance and patient safety.
Qualifications and experience
  • Broad experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) including head and neck oncology; management of adult OMFS patients; and excellent clinical skills.
  • Experience of clinical governance and active participation in MDTs and related governance activities.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills; ability to build effective working relationships across professions; change management experience is advantageous.
  • Desire to contribute to teaching, training, and research and to collaborate with external academic partners.
