Job description

This Consultant in General Adult Liaison Psychiatry post is based at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, providing senior clinical leadership within a busy, well-established liaison psychiatry service. The role delivers expert assessment and management of adults presenting with complex mental health needs across the Emergency Department, Acute Medical Unit and inpatient wards. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the consultant provides clinical oversight, supports MDT decision making, leads on risk management, and acts as Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act.

The post includes 10 PAs (7.5 DCC, 2.5 SPA), with opportunities for teaching, supervision of trainees, service development, governance, and participation in the Trust's academic programme. The service has strong links with acute hospital teams, community mental health services, and specialist support teams. The consultant contributes to pathway development, quality improvement, and meeting CORE24 standards. On call commitment is approximately 1:10 as second senior on call.
