The Research & Development department at Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust offers a fixed‑term (15 months) Clinical Trials Assistant role. The post‑holder will support our busy portfolio of research studies, working closely with colleagues to share study information and support participants throughout their research journey. This includes ensuring the smooth running of studies and providing research participation opportunities to service users, enhancing the quality of care.
Research and Development is integral to the Trust, using high‑quality evidence to improve care quality and value. The Trust provides mental health and learning disability services and is one of the most research‑active mental health trusts in the NHS.
The post‑holder provides support to research colleagues and study delivery, including tasks such as preparing and maintaining study documents, arranging appointments, collating data, arranging postal packs, contacting service users, carrying out venepuncture and ECGs, identifying potential study participants, and circulating research opportunities.
Assist in evaluating patient eligibility and liaising with healthcare professionals for clinical trial entry; coordinate tests, obtain results, arrange transport, and handle specimen documentation per protocols.
Perform venepuncture and ECGs as required following appropriate training.
Coordinate patients’ journey through protocols – requisition studies, organise investigations, procure patient notes, and book appointments.
Manage telephone enquiries from staff, patients, and carers, ensuring relevant personnel are informed for action.
Maintain site‑file documentation, including archiving arrangements.
Collect, collate, and complete trial data and documentation in accordance with protocols.
