Catastrophic Injury Lawyer

Keoghs is a leading law firm with a reputation for excellence in complex litigation, representing major insurance providers. Our Newcastle office is regularly recognised by the Legal 500. We are seeking an experienced Catastrophic Injury Lawyer to defend complex injury claims.
Key Responsibilities
- Case Management: Support one of our Lead Lawyers with a high‑value, complex injury Defendant RTA caseload (claims ranging from £3 million to above £20 million).
- Accountability: Communicate with clients and claimants’ legal teams, maintaining exceptional service through proactive case management.
- Research & Analysis: Conduct thorough legal research and analyse medical records, liability documents, Part 35 reports, and witness statements to prepare detailed technical advice on indemnity, liability and quantum issues.
- Court Representation: Represent clients in hearings, settlement meetings, mediations, arbitrations and trials.
- Development: Develop junior team members, delegating appropriately and guiding technical growth.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Qualified solicitor or CILEX (equivalent to 3‑4 years PQE).
- Significant experience handling large‑loss or catastrophic injury files, capable of managing high‑value cases independently or supervising lower‑value cases.
- Defendant experience preferred but claimant experience at senior level is considered.
- Strong understanding of case law, litigation practice, Court Practice Rules, and research analysis for high‑value claims.
- Technical knowledge of liability, quantum, procedural issues (e.g., contested interim payment applications).
- Excellent organisational and IT skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills for oral and written communication with colleagues, clients and third parties.
