Overview
Wood is seeking to build an expressions of interest talent pool for Cable Designers of all levels of experience to join our Cables Design Engineering team. These roles focus on supporting underground cables construction projects and may be based in UK offices with hybrid working options. Preference may be given to candidates willing to work from Horsham or Glasgow.
Responsibilities
- Produce UGC systems design studies under guidance to support construction and consultancy projects, including: Cable System Design Summary reports, Cable Rating reports, Cable Bonding scheme and Induced Voltage calculations; Cable Forces calculations in different installations and operation scenarios; Cable Sizing calculations; Cable Pulling design and calculations; Cable Installation Design and review of drawings.
- Select materials and accessories and produce the Bill of Quantities for the project and tenders.
- Coordinate with suppliers, review product designs and type test certificates, and support procurement team for technical aspects.
- Interface with other Wood teams (such as OHL, Substations and Protection teams) and different project parties.
- Support the Operations team during construction period.
- Duties may vary according to candidate expertise, responsibility, and ongoing work requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum ISCED level 4 (post-secondary non-tertiary) with HNC in STEM subject, preferably Electrical Engineering.
- Basic understanding and grounding of Cable Design obtained through initial industry experience.
- Ability to use CAD design software; sound communication, numeracy and IT skills.
- Multi-tasking and prioritisation skills to meet deadlines; awareness of health and safety impacts on UGC construction contracts.
- Fluent English (spoken and written); ability to work effectively in a diverse team.
Desirable
- ISCED level 7 (Bachelor) and/or level 8 (Master) in Engineering or relevant discipline.
- Experience working under CDM regulations as a designer; ability to create PLS CADD models.
- Continued professional development mindset; ability to drive and adapt in a dynamic environment.
- Having a valid driving license is beneficial.
