Job description

Business Development Manager – Ascot Lloyd Investment Management

Reporting to: Managing Director, ALIM

Location: National Role

Company Overview

Ascot Lloyd Investment Management (ALIM), part of the Ascot Lloyd group, is a specialist asset management business providing a comprehensive range of investment solutions through financial advisers. Established in 2014, the firm has grown from offering risk-targeted, platform-based discretionary Model Portfolio Services (MPS) to launching the IFSL Ascot Lloyd OEIC range—a suite of multi-asset, multi-manager funds across the risk spectrum—and Ascot Lloyd Private Wealth (ALPW), a bespoke discretionary service for clients with more complex investment needs. As of 30 September 2025, ALIM manages approximately £2.7 billion in assets.

Purpose of the Role

The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving the distribution of ALIM investment solutions to Ascot Lloyd advisers nationally. The emphasis of the role is sales-led—identifying opportunities, promoting investment solutions, and growing assets under management—while retaining the ability to provide advisers with a solid understanding of ALIM’s investment proposition.

The BDM will build strong relationships with advisers, deliver compelling sales presentations, and ensure advisers are confident in positioning ALIM solutions to their clients.

Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
  • Promote ALIM’s investment solutions (MPS, OEICs, and bespoke discretionary services) to financial advisers within Ascot Lloyd.
  • Drive growth in assets under management by securing increased adoption of ALIM solutions across the national adviser base.
  • Identify, develop, and convert business opportunities through proactive engagement and consultative sales activity.
  • Deliver persuasive sales presentations, investment updates, and training sessions to groups and individuals.
  • Establish a regular programme of adviser meetings, webinars, and regional events to maintain high visibility and engagement.
Adviser Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with regional leads and advisers within Ascot Lloyd.
  • Act as the first point of contact for advisers seeking information and support on ALIM solutions.
  • Understand adviser business models and client needs to match them effectively with ALIM’s investment proposition.
  • Provide ongoing communication to ensure advisers remain confident in recommending ALIM solutions.
Product Knowledge & Technical Support
  • Retain sufficient knowledge of ALIM’s investment philosophy, process, and performance to support advisers in client conversations.
  • Deliver investment insights and updates in conjunction with the ALIM investment team.
  • Working with marketing colleagues, ensure advisers have access to appropriate technical support and thought leadership material.
Compliance & Professional Standards
  • Conduct all activities in line with FCA requirements and ALIM’s internal compliance framework.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activity and adviser interactions.
  • Uphold the values of professionalism, trust, and client focus in all engagements.
Experience & Core Skills
Essential:
  • Proven track record in sales and business development within investment management, with experience distributing investment solutions to IFAs.
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to identify and convert opportunities into tangible growth in AUM.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, both one-to-one and in group settings.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently in a national role.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to influence and persuade.
  • Sound understanding of investment solutions, adviser distribution channels, and the UK retail investment market.
Desirable:
  • Professional investment qualification (e.g. IMC, CFA Level 1, or equivalent).
  • Experience working with discretionary fund managers, multi-asset strategies, or platform-based model portfolios.
  • Familiarity with financial advisers’ business models and the regulatory environment for investment distribution.
