About the role

You’ll join our Business Finance department as a Business Controller, bringing financial planning and analysis expertise to support the Buildings Business and drive future growth.

Key responsibilities
  • Apply a proactive, forward‑looking mindset and create value in day‑to‑day activities.
  • Attend management meetings and present financial results.
  • Flag risks and opportunities to management and follow up on actions.
  • Oversee income‑statement reporting and perform root‑cause analysis (staff costs, margins, billing ratio, non‑productive time).
  • Prepare management‑reporting commentary and ad‑hoc financial reports, including year‑end audit.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting, ensuring accuracy and business‑leader buy‑in.
  • Identify and implement improvement initiatives.
  • Analyse and report on project profitability, mix versus targets, and potential risks and opportunities.
Qualifications & skills
  • Strength academic background (2.1 or better) plus a relevant finance qualification (ACA, CIMA, or similar).
  • Commercial finance/business‑partnering experience within a consultancy (engineering consulting a plus).
  • Solid project accounting and management‑accounting principles.
  • Robust analytical and modelling skills, especially in Excel.
  • Experience with group ERP systems.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, objective focus and commercial awareness.
  • Ability to build positive business relationships and work collaboratively.
