Overview
We are now seeking a Workshop Foreman to join our Boston depot. This role is crucial in supporting the smooth and efficient running of the workshop, providing hands-on technical support, supervising and developing a team of technicians and apprentices, and ensuring the highest quality of service and repair work is achieved. The Workshop Foreman will act as a key link between the Service Manager, technicians, and other departments, ensuring productivity, safety, and customer satisfaction at all times.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support technicians and apprentices, providing guidance, coaching and technical assistance where required.
- Carry out diagnostic work, repairs, servicing and inspections to a high standard, ensuring manufacturer and warranty guidelines are followed.
- Ensure all work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in line with customer expectations.
- Assist with the allocation and planning of daily workload to maximise productivity and resource efficiency.
- Liaise with the Parts Department to ensure parts availability is aligned with workshop requirements.
- Monitor job progress and update Service/Depot Managers on outstanding or delayed work.
- Maintain workshop equipment through regular checks and report any issues promptly.
- Lead by example, maintaining professionalism, quality standards, and compliance with health and safety procedures.
- Support the implementation of new working practices and processes to improve efficiency.
- Ensure tools, equipment and materials are properly maintained, stored, and safeguarded.
- Comply with Thompson Commercials Safety Policy and other relevant health and safety guidance.
- Perform other reasonable duties consistent with the nature of the role and level of responsibility.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Strong technical knowledge of commercial vehicles.
- Proven experience in this role or a similar role (3 years ideally).
- Supervisory or team leader experience within a workshop environment (essential).
- Good communication and organisational skills (essential).
- Problem-solving ability with a hands-on approach (essential).
- Basic IT literacy and familiarity with DMS systems (essential).
- Full Driving Licence (essential).
