A leading health and social care charity in Sheffield is seeking an experienced Bank Support Worker for their Supported Living Service. The ideal candidate will provide compassionate support to individuals living independently while promoting inclusion and dignity. Responsibilities include assisting with daily activities, and engaging clients in community activities. We are also focused on our people. Our Support Workers are dedicated and passionate about going ‘the extra mile’ for the people we support and in return, we go the extra mile for them by investing in pay, recognition, wellbeing and continued professional and personal development. We will provide you with all the training, support and personal protective equipment you need in your role and will help you develop, should you decide you want to develop your career with us.
We are 9 males who all live in individual flats. There are 9 flats in an old converted public house; we all have a key to access the main building and a key to our individual front door. We live independently from each other and have our own individual Tenancy Agreement.
We vary in age from 22‑56. We all have varying support needs ranging from Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disability, Emotional Behaviour Disorder and Personality Disorder. All our staff are trained and supported to understand and support us with our additional support needs.
What is important to us?
We are proud of our home; we have created a communal space that has a pool table and a sofa so we can interact with each other if we wish. We are proud that we have been able to move into our own place, somewhere we can make our own.
We do lots of activities, some of us have paid jobs, some have volunteer jobs, and some of us attend day services where we meet with our peers and have support to access activities.
We are always doing something, we even played Rugby with some International players from Greece. We play Pool, Table tennis and have access to our volunteering programme. We are all on a different journey with different hopes, dreams and aspirations. Some of us want to establish relationships and settle down. Some of us are still exploring who we are and looking for a special someone to share our lives with.
We access our community frequently; most of which is independently. We have travel passes and can access transport easily. We aren’t far from Sheffield City Centre so we can also walk if we wish. We like to get involved and try as many things as we can, in and out of the service. Some of us have been on Holiday independently and others are working towards that. We have varied interests including supporting different football teams, sports, cooking, shopping, socialising (most of us do this a lot!). Some of us have bikes and like to get out and about, sometimes we like staff to do this activity with us, so we like it when staff are able to bring their bikes to work. Some of us are happy to be by ourselves in our own space and don’t want to do lots of activities outside.
We are situated in Heeley, Sheffield. We are close to city centre and can access public transport to get anywhere in Sheffield.
We have plenty of small shops close by and supermarkets not far either. We have plenty of food services nearby too (we like a takeaway!). This place is special to us as we can live independently with access to support when we need it.
We have staff 24/7 on site. We can access them whenever we need support. The staff work shifts either early, middle or late, then there is a waking Night. Early‑0700‑1430, Late 1400‑2130, Night 2115‑0715. The staff are also provided with all the support, induction and training they will need to support us.
