Job summary

An insurance firm in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced underwriting support professional to manage policy transactions and evaluate risks. The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of related experience, knowledge of underwriting systems, and effective communication skills. This position offers an opportunity to work collaboratively with agents and brokers while maintaining privacy and confidentiality in all transactions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience; 3 years preferred.
  • Previous commercial lines underwriting support experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of underwriting systems and various software applications preferred.
  • Insurance courses related to property and casualty insurance beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and respond to phone calls and emails from agents.
  • Work on underwriting assignments and evaluate risk exposure.
  • Apply underwriting policies to evaluate the acceptability of risk.
  • Process policy change requests, renewals, and new business.
  • Collaborate with other business areas to meet service objectives.

  • Insurance courses related to property and casualty insurance, such as IIA and CPCU beneficial.
  • Effective communication, analytical, and mathematical skills.
Responsibilities
  • Receive and respond to phone calls and emails from agents, brokers, and sales personnel regarding all coverage and transaction types to obtain information needed to properly underwrite, price, and program policies/accounts.
  • Work on underwriting assignments such as loss and risk exposure evaluation through the use of manuals, established procedures, and collected information. Refer business outside of authority limit.
  • Apply underwriting policies, philosophies, and procedures to evaluate the overall acceptability of risk to determine if it fits Sentry’s underwriting guidelines.
  • Process policy change requests, renewals, and some new business within knowledge and authority levels.
  • May handle facultative reinsurance quoting, processing, and issuance.
  • Collaborate with other business areas to ensure service and quality objectives are met. Build and maintain effective working relationships with underwriters, sales agents and brokers.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality requirements as required by legislation.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned from time to time.
