Assistant Fire Engineer (Graduate) – Built Asset Consultancy at Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB). Location: Birmingham (With Hybrid Working).

Key Responsibilities

Role Overview: Fire Engineers design buildings to protect lives by understanding how fire behaves, solving complex problems for projects such as skyscrapers, hospitals, or transport hubs. As a Graduate Fire Engineer, you will support our experienced fire engineering team in delivering high-quality fire strategies and technical advice across all project stages—from concept design to construction.

  • Assist in developing fire safety strategies and reports for new and existing buildings in accordance with UK regulations and international codes.
  • Conduct fire engineering calculations, including means of escape, smoke control, and structural fire protection.
  • Support the use of computational tools such as CFD and evacuation modelling software.
  • Contribute to fire risk assessments, audits, and site inspections.
  • Collaborate with internal multidisciplinary teams and external clients, architects, and building control bodies.
  • Keep up to date with changes in fire safety legislation and technical standards.
  • Participate in internal knowledge-sharing sessions and graduate development programs.
Qualifications
  • A degree (or pending) in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Building Services, or a related STEM discipline
