The Assistant/Associate Dean of Students is directly responsible for the delivery of services to support student learning and well-being at the DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (DCOM) Harrogate location for the DO program. The Dean of Students leads and manages a comprehensive suite of services that promote engagement and success for a diverse student population in a safe environment. The primary roles of the Dean of Students are to ensure academic success for all students, foster a sense of community among the faculty and students that promotes academic excellence and professionalism, and to identify and address both academic and non‑academic issues that may negatively impact student performance and success.

Responsibilities
  • Promote the mission of Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) and DCOM to all faculty, staff, students and to the community at large.
  • Promote effective working relationships among faculty, staff and students.
  • Participate on university committees.
  • Evaluate existing goals and establish new goals for student services.
  • Maintain, analyze, and interpret data to identify opportunities and develop strategies to advance academic achievement and student success; demonstrate and model professionalism for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Provide feedback to and assist pre‑clinical and clinical Deans with curricular development, course delivery, and student assessment.
  • Provide administrative support to the Student Progress Committee including student communication.
  • Develop individualized proactive and, when necessary, remedial learning plans for at‑risk students.
  • Supervise a team of learning specialists and other staff.
  • Collaborate with University leaders to implement strategic initiatives and ensure alignment of programmatic efforts to support students to graduation.
  • Develop, edit, and oversee the policies and procedures in the areas of student services, student activities, and student advancement.
  • Serve as the point of contact for student concerns and complaints.
  • Counsel students and provide guidance to students at large.
  • Work collaboratively with the Student Activities Coordinator to provide and develop a fun and supportive learning environment through campus clubs, activities and events.
  • Prepare requests for services, space and equipment required to execute the functions of the office.
  • Prepare periodic reports to the Campus Dean regarding student services.
  • Evaluate personnel performance and recommend personnel actions pertaining to the acquisition, promotion and/or retention or dismissal.
  • Recommend programs for the development and enrichment of unit personnel.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled meetings of personnel assigned to student services and maintain meeting summaries.
  • Prepare and manage a departmental budget.
  • Prepare materials and documentation required for addressing student accreditation standards for AOA COCA.
  • Complete required institutional, program accreditation, and other reports necessary for the advancement of University programs.
  • Review and revise student handbook and policies and procedures as appropriate both on campus and at extended campus sites.
  • Serve as a member of the Dean’s Council.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
