Asbestos Surveyor – Romford/Southeast - Part-time

As SOCOTEC continues to expand, we’re looking for a reliable and committed Asbestos Surveyor to join our Environment & Safety Division and wear the badge with pride. We’re seeking a proactive, adaptable professional who can work confidently both independently and as part of a team. In this role, you’ll be key in surveying buildings, collecting samples, and identifying asbestos-containing materials to help ensure the safety of workplaces and communities.

Your expertise will support projects across a wide range of sectors, including defence, rail, roads, power stations, retail, heritage, and service industries—giving you the chance to make a real impact every day.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking asbestos surveys, recording site data, and submitting reports on time.
• Maintaining equipment, ensuring cleanliness, calibration, and proper records.
• Liaising with clients, project managers, and colleagues to deliver projects to agreed timescales.
• Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety procedures and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Must hold BOHS P402 qualifications (or RSPH Level 3 in Asbestos Surveying).
• Industry experience essential with proven track record of conducting a similar role.
• Hold a full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Competent in the use of IT software, particularly mobile applications used for survey data collection.
• Good client‑facing skills – confident in liaising with contractors, project managers, and stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection/report writing.
• Time management and ability to meet project deadlines.

The SOCOTEC Asbestos team holds UKAS accreditation for both Inspection and testing and is one of the leading asbestos consultancies in the UK. We provide all aspects of asbestos consultancy services, ensuring clients are better equipped to comply with current legislation. These services include surveying, lab analysis of samples, managing removal projects on the clients’ behalf, consultancy, policy reviews, and action plans and training.

We operate out of six offices covering all areas of the UK and assist more than 300 clients on a variety of projects. The work our Asbestos team does is vital in preventing workers from exposure to asbestos fibres, and that all of our clients operate within the asbestos regulations and wider health and safety framework.
