Overview

Engineer (f/m/x) - Design of metamaterials – The Microwave and Radar Institute at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) focuses on the design and development of metamaterials for broadband reduction of radar backscattering on electrically large surfaces, addressing SAR and related sensor applications.

Your tasks

• Design of metamaterials for broadband reduction of radar backscattering on electrically large surfaces based on current developments, e.g. design of unit cells with materials of finite conductivity
• Development of a modelling method for metamaterials that are adapted to the curved surface of radar targets
• Conception of optimisation procedures in the design process of metamaterials
• Documentation in the form of scientific reports and presentations as well as publications in scientific journals
• Further development of evaluation procedures (conception, calibration, measurement, evaluation) of mono- and bistatic transmission and reflection measurements and the resulting measurement data for material characterisation for corresponding microwave frequencies

What you bring with you

• Completed scientific university degree (Master's / Diploma Uni) in physics, electrical engineering and information technology, aerospace engineering or other degree programmes relevant to the job
• Knowledge and experience in the field of metamaterials
• Experience in the field of radar scattering reduction (e.g. absorbers, deflectors, FSS)
• Good programming skills in Python or MATLAB
• Good English language skills
• The handling of classified information must be guaranteed
• Remuneration is in accordance with the applicable collective agreements of the public service (federal government). Note: A prerequisite for employment at DLR is security clearance in accordance with the Security Clearance Act (SÜG) and willingness to undergo a security clearance
