Overview

The Research Scientist 2 participates in research study design, analysis and interpretation of results, with emphasis on statistical and analytical plan development; data acquisition, preparation, and management; statistical analysis and interpretation of findings. Work assignments are varied and frequently require interpretation and independent determination of the appropriate courses of action. Humana’s Healthcare Quality & Reporting Improvement (HQRI) department is seeking a Research Scientist 2 to join a high-performing team dedicated to advancing predictive modeling and analytics in support of our Medicare and Medicaid business. The HQRI team delivers insights that drive the effectiveness of risk adjustment initiatives.

In this position, the Research Scientist 2 will partner with a senior research scientist to apply advanced statistical methods to rigorously evaluate the impact of risk adjustment programs and pilot projects. The findings generated will inform key business decisions and help optimize operational strategies. The role will collaborate with colleagues specializing in data science and actuarial analytics, bringing complementary skills and the ability to learn from teammates while contributing with unique expertise in statistical analysis.

Responsibilities
  • Within six months, take ownership of an existing program evaluation project

  • Within 2 years, support a portfolio of program evaluation methods, and take ownership of new project(s) in valuation or analytics

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years of technical experience

  • Experience with one of the following: SQL, SAS, R or Python

  • Experience using mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform high volumes of complex data into advanced analytic solutions

  • Capable of making decisions regarding own work methods, occasionally in ambiguous situations

Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher education

  • Experience in health care, insurance, or risk adjustment

Additional Information

This position is remote and work can be performed anywhere in the US; however, preference is for candidates to be located within reasonable commutable distance to Louisville, Kentucky.

To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service must meet the following criteria: download speed of 25 Mbps and upload speed of 10 Mbps; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership. Employees who live and work from Home in California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense. Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

Pay Range: The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$71,100 - $97,800 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
