Job description
About Amber

Amber is an entirely new way of thinking about buying, banking and selling energy where home energy technology works to put money back in customers’ pockets and accelerate the renewable energy transition.

We’re an Australian headquartered company, where we are both an energy technology company and a utility providing energy directly to households and small businesses. In Australia, we’ve proven that the cheapest, fastest and most rewarding way to reach 100% renewables is to automate the growing wave of home batteries, EVs, and other smart energy devices. Customers get direct access to the real-time electricity prices and the technology to shift energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid and export to the grid at times when the price they can be paid for it is highest.

We are a clear market leader in energy automation in Australia, and are now partnering with utilities across Europe to bring our technology to European markets and consumers. We’re at a critical moment in taking the business to scale in Europe. You’ll be joining a rapidly growing regional team of 10-15, and be part of a global team of over 150, with expertise across energy, technology, marketing, and operations. We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a great culture of people who love coming to work to build a better world. We’re backed by leading VCs in Australia and Europe, as well as impact-focused investors and world-leading energy companies.

About the role

This role sits at the heart of Amber’s mission to accelerate the transition to 100% renewables. You will be joining a passionate, purpose-driven team where your work will have a direct impact on reshaping the energy industry and empowering customers to take control of their energy usage.

As Account Executive, your goal will be getting Amber’s tech into the hands of millions of European homes to allow them to unlock the full value of their energy devices and drive down bills.

Your focus will be building a pipeline and closing deals with utility partners across Europe, so that they can deliver incredible experiences to their customers using Amber’s technology.

You’ll be passionate about solving real customer problems with Amber’s product and motivated by closing large and complex deals. You’ll work closely with colleagues across product, tech and commercial to execute an effective sales motion from prospecting to close.

This is a full-time role to be ideally based in the UK, but we are also open to considering the right candidate anywhere within mainland Europe.

Responsibilities
  • Own the full sales cycle: prospecting, qualifying leads, running demos, negotiating contracts, and closing deals
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Amber teams (e.g. Product, Engineering, Pre-sales, Marketing, Account Management, Legal) throughout the sales process
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of opportunities through various channels
  • Map accounts, identify decision-makers, lead outreach & cultivate exec level relationships
  • Act as the main point of contact for prospects throughout the sales process
  • Develop a deep understanding of client context, their goals and constraints
  • Collaborate with Delivery (product/engineering) colleagues for smooth transition from closing
  • Develop a deep understanding of the Amber product offering (components, benefits, operations, integrations, compliance features, analytics, etc.)
  • Deliver product demos to bring the offering to life and highlight the customer outcomes (i.e. bill savings)
  • Act as product evangelist, telling our product story and educating prospects
  • Stay up-to-date on market trends, regulations and emerging technologies
  • Represent the company at industry events, webinars, and conferences
  • Gather competitive intelligence to position the product effectively
  • Consistently achieve or exceed sales quotas and KPIs (e.g. pipeline, deals, ARR)
  • Negotiate pricing and contract terms in tight collaboration with Legal
  • Provide forecasting and reporting to company leadership
  • Help shape the Go-To-Market strategy
  • Own playbooks, case studies and sales enablement tools
Key Requirements
  • At Amber, we want to hire self-starters who are eager to learn and are comfortable working in a changing environment. Some of the key traits we are looking for in this role:
  • 5+ years of B2B SaaS sales experience, ideally selling into enterprise accounts;
  • Track record of running end-to-end sales processes (prospecting to close) and delivering dealflow and ARR;
  • Background in the energy retail, SaaS, energy tech (e.g. EVs, emobility, residential batteries, solar PV) or similar industries with strong grasp on relevant trends and implications;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders and present complex solutions in terms of clear business value
  • Analytical, curious and structured mindset, comfortable working with data and delving into root causes, hypothesising and validating;
  • Naturally organised, comfortable managing conflicting priorities effectively and working with a high degree of attention to detail;
  • A team player, used to forming and motivating cross functional teams to capture opportunities;
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, scale-up environment, with a strong bias towards action and motivated by outcomes and performance.
Desirable
  • Experience working across time zones and cultures;
  • Second (or third) European language;
  • Relevant professional qualifications.
Benefits
  • We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a great culture of people who love coming to work to build a better world;
  • You’d be a part of a rapidly growing global team of over 150 shaping the future of household and grid energy use;
  • Flexible working hours & remote working - see How You Work for more info;
  • Shares in Amber Electric;
  • Employment and leave entitlements as per your local country;
  • An external Employee Assistance Plan for mental health support;
  • Annual Learning & Development budget to support your personal growth;
  • Annual company conference in Melbourne, Australia; flights & accommodation paid for.
How You Work
  • You will be working predominantly remotely, with Amber’s flexible culture allowing you to shape your schedule around core collaboration hours. Amber is an Australian-based company, which means that your core hours of work will be 7am - 10am, Monday to Wednesday (occasional Thursday) London time. This is to allow some collaboration and crossover time with your Australian colleagues. How you work outside of our core hours is entirely up to you. We have a flexible working culture at Amber, with various arrangements available to suit your work-life balance.
  • Our headquarters is located in Melbourne, Australia, with a second co-working office/space in Sydney, Australia. We are also establishing a London co-working hub that you will be expected to travel to for your first 2 weeks of onboarding, then ideally once per week (less frequent if EU based).
  • There may be opportunities to travel to Australia 1-2 times per year to attend company-wide events.
How to apply

Please include your resume and a cover letter.

Our hiring process is:

  • A screening interview with our talent team
  • An intro call with the hiring manager
  • A take-home assignment to work on in your own time
  • A follow-up panel interview built around an assignment that should take no longer than one evening to prepare for
  • A potential final chat with one/two of the founders or exec team
  • We'd love to hear from you!

We know that no one ticks every single box in a job description, and that’s okay. If this role excites you and you feel you could bring value, we would love to hear from you even if your experience doesn’t line up 100% with the list above.

At Amber, we believe diverse teams create the best ideas and outcomes. We welcome people from all walks of life and especially encourage applications from underrepresented groups. We are committed to creating an environment where everyone has equal opportunity to thrive regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability.

The bit at the end

We promise to be respectful of your time as an applicant while trying to be as thorough as possible in finding the right fit for our team.

Applications will be accepted only from candidates already based in the UK/EU, with full working rights!

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted promptly. All other applicants will also be notified of the outcome as soon as possible.

No recruitment agencies please. We've got this! Thank you.

£80,000 - £110,000 GBP a year
