Job description

Location: Ford, West Sussex
Salary: Approximately £32,011 per year
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm
Weekly Hours: 47.5 hours per week
Breaks: 30 minutes paid break and 30 minutes unpaid break per day

Overtime Rates:

• Time and a half (x1.5), Monday to Saturday
• Double time (x2), Sundays and Bank Holidays

A quick look at the role
We’re looking for a Yardman / Banksman to join our team in Ford. In this role, you’ll play an important part in keeping our busy site safe, organised, and compliant. You’ll be responsible for supporting the safe movement of vehicles, ensuring waste is handled correctly, and maintaining a clean and efficient yard environment.

Your core responsibilities

• Act as a banksman, safely guiding HGVs and mobile plant around the site to prevent accidents and ensure smooth operations.
• Support with yard organisation, including directing traffic, monitoring tipping areas, and ensuring vehicles are in the correct location.
• Carry out general yard duties such as cleaning, site checks, and ensuring waste is correctly segregated and stored.
• Maintain high health and safety standards by spotting and reporting hazards, unsafe behaviour, and near misses.
• Work closely with drivers, site operatives, and colleagues to keep the yard safe, tidy, and efficient.

Our essential requirements

• Previous experience in a yard, waste management, construction, or similar outdoor manual role.
• Ability to work safely around heavy vehicles and mobile plant, with good awareness of site traffic management.
• Physically fit, reliable, and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• A strong focus on health and safety, with good communication skills to work effectively as part of a team.
