Well-Safe Solutions, Aberdeen, though there may be a requirement to visit and work at other company locations or supplier’s premises as required.

The postholder must be able to attend our global headquarters in Aberdeen.

Reporting Line:

The Well Engineering Technical Authority will report directly to the Well Engineering Director.

Role:

The Well Engineering Technical Authority will provide technical governance and assurance, setting company standards, reviewing designs, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal requirements. Focused on risk management, MAH control, and maintaining technical integrity across all well operations.

Key responsibilities:
The Well Engineering Technical Authority will be required to:
  • Provide technical leadership as Wells Technical Authority, ensuring compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain and execute the Wells Technical Assurance process, ensuring audits, gate reviews, and peer reviews drive compliance and quality.
  • Communicate assurance outcomes to internal teams, clients, and regulators; elevate concerns where standards are not met.
  • Support risk‑based decision‑making, balancing technical integrity, cost, schedule, and safety.
  • Approve dispensations and Management of Change requests with clear justification and risk assessment.
  • Champion competency development within the Wells team through mentoring and training.
  • Provide technical input to incident investigations and embed lessons learned into processes.
  • Provide authoritative technical guidance to engineering and operations teams, influencing critical decisions.
  • Champion continuous improvement in technical governance and embed lessons learned into standards.
Key outcomes:
  • All wells designed and executed in full compliance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and industry best practices.
  • Technical assurance processes consistently applied and documented, with clear evidence of MAH risk management.
  • Competency within the Wells team maintained through mentoring and development.
  • Continuous improvement demonstrated through updates to standards and governance based on lessons learned.
  • Non‑conformances identified and resolved promptly, maintaining technical integrity across all projects.
  • Positive stakeholder confidence in technical governance and assurance.

Knowledge & Competency:
  • Deep technical expertise in well engineering standards and design assurance.
  • Ability to set and maintain company well engineering policies and technical governance.
  • Strong understanding of UKCS regulatory frameworks and Safety Case requirements.
  • Competence in managing Major Accident Hazards (MAH) and ensuring ALARP compliance.
  • Leadership in technical decision‑making and risk management.
  • Experience in complex well operations, including P&A and integrity management.
  • Proven track record in technical assurance reviews and peer review facilitation.
  • Familiarity with OEUK guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Effective communication and mentoring skills for engineering teams.
  • Degree qualified in relevant engineering discipline appropriate to well engineering
