Job description

Do you want to make a positive impact in your community and support better mental health for all? We are seeking dedicated Volunteer Therapists from all backgrounds to join Lancashire Mind’s growing team.

Mental Health Support Through Therapy Volunteering

As a Volunteer Therapist, you will play a vital role in our mission to ensure no one faces a mental health challenge alone. We welcome applications from trainees on placement, qualified therapists, or mental health professionals looking to give back to the Lancashire community.

Key Responsibilities of the Volunteer Therapist Role
  • Provide safe, confidential and supportive therapeutic interventions for individuals, either in-person or online, as agreed.
  • Listen with empathy and professionalism, working in line with Lancashire Mind’s values.
  • Liaise with staff, volunteers, and local mental health services to ensure holistic care for service users.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records in accordance with data protection and Lancashire Mind’s policies.
  • Participate in supervision, ongoing training, and reflective practice sessions as required.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and continuous improvement of our therapy provision.
  • Adhere to safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of your volunteer work.
Person Specification
  • Appropriate therapeutic qualification or current enrolment on a therapy/counselling training programme (minimum Level 4, or equivalent).
  • Registered with, or working towards, membership of a professional body (BACP, UKCP, or similar).
  • Genuine interest in improving mental health and wellbeing within the Lancashire community.
  • Empathy, compassion, and excellent communication skills.
  • Open-minded, non-judgemental, and able to work with people from all walks of life.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and professional standards.
