Position Description
Position Summary

The Vice Provost position oversees all aspects of the undergraduate co-curricular educational program and is responsible for the University’s student experience strategy. This position directs and motivates the professional and support staff of the Division of Student Success and Engagement. Specifically, the Vice Provost provides leadership to programs that connect the Curricular and Co-Cocurricular (Student Success, First Year Experience/ Student Leadership, Agape Center, Career Professional Development Center, NEXT Steps Program) and areas of Student Engagement, Care & Support (Campus Ministries, the Engle Center for Counseling & Health, the Office of the Student Engagement, the Office of Residence Life & Housing and Student Conduct.)

Education Required

Master’s Degree.

Education Preferred

Doctorate preferred.

Experience Required

3-8 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education with a focus on student success and engagement.

Special Working Conditions

Primary Duties
  1. Serve as the chief student life officer of the Student Success & Engagement Division.
  2. Lead all areas of the Student Success and Engagement Division: (Student Success, First Year Experience/ Student Leadership, Agape Center, Career Professional Development Center, NEXT Steps Program) and areas of Student Engagement, Care & Support (Campus Ministries, the Engle Center for Counseling & Health, the Office of the Student Engagement, the Office of Residence Life & Housing and Student Conduct)
  3. Develop a comprehensive student success and engagement program by building strong relationships between co-curricular and curricular programs, supervising staff effectively, and fostering a collegial and nurturing learning environment consistent with the mission of the University and approved policies.
  4. Effectively hire and orient student success and engagement personnel who model the Christian values and mission of the University.
  5. Provide collaborative support, counsel, and oversight to the Dean of Students for matters related to conduct and student engagement.
  6. Ensure that matters of student conduct and engagement are addressed in an effective, timely and consistent manner.
  7. Nurture a shared vision for community life that facilitates student spiritual, intellectual and personal growth and learning.
  8. Promote support for the University ethos through the articulation of the expectations of the University to new and continuing students, through publications and the implementation of the University’s judicial policies, and the development of appropriate campus programming.
  9. Publish the Student Handbook and oversee the website for the Division.
  10. Implement emergency response protocols and programs for the undergraduate campus.
  11. Provide leadership that enhances the University’s reputation for co-curricular excellence.
  12. Coordinate the work of the Co-curricular Educational Council and Community Standards Committee.
  13. Effectively serve on both the President’s and Provost’s Cabinets.
  14. Serve as the primary advisor for the Student Government Association (SGA).
  15. Serve as an “On Consult Administrator” in support of “On Call” Residence Life & Engle Center personnel.
  16. Oversee all aspects of programming for Student Success & Engagement.
  17. Participate in and represent Messiah University at local, regional and national meetings and conferences.
  18. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
