A prominent veterinary practice in Alfreton is looking for enthusiastic vet surgeons to join their RCVS accredited team. The First opinion leadership team at Scarsdale Vets welcome applications from enthusiastic vet surgeons to apply for an exciting development opportunity to join our RCVS accredited practice located in Alfreton, Derbyshire. We see a mix of both routine and emergency medical and surgical cases and consistently strive to deliver the highest quality of care to our patients and our clinical team is instrumental in delivering that ethos. We’re offering a welcome bonus of up to £5000 (pro rata), as well as relocation support of up to £5000.

It’s essential that you enjoy what you do so we will work with you to create a role that suits your interest and skill set. A typical full time role would involve working 38 hours per week over a 4 day week, along with our 1:6 Saturday shift (08:30 – 13:00) at our Langley Mill practice. You’ll receive time back in lieu the following week. Bank Holiday cover will be required at our main Pride Park hospital on a rota basis. You may be required to assist in cover across any of our practice sites.
We are a multisite practice situated in the Midlands. In addition to our main RCVS Tier 3 accredited hospital we have 8 practice sites – all our sites are accredited by the RCVS under the Practice Standards Scheme. We have a talented and enthusiastic team of 25 Veterinary Surgeons, as well as our roster of New Grad Vets that supported by an exceptional team of Registered Veterinary Nurses, Veterinary Care Assistants and Client Care Advisors.
Many of our team, both vets and nurses, are certificate holders including Medicine, Surgery, ECC, Ophthalmology and Imaging and we actively encourage and support Certificate study. Our main hospital is well equipped with a CT scanner, MRI, Advanced Ultrasound, Endoscopy, Digital X-ray, Dental radiography, and multiple surgical suites, as well as an onsite hydrotherapy & rehabilitation centre and benefits from a multi-disciplinary specialist led referral service.
At our Alfreton location, we offer a range of veterinary services. We have 3 well sized consultation rooms for veterinary consultations and nurse clinics, plus a prep area and operating theatre to carry out routine procedures such as dentals, neutering and lump removals.
There are also separate dog and cat wards and an isolation ward for your pet’s recovery post-surgery. In addition, the practice also offers a dispensary, imaging room with x-ray and ultrasound facilities, laboratory and retail area. The waiting area for clients has separate cat and dog sections to help foster our dog friendly and cat friendly approach.
Centrally located, there are excellent transport links to the rest of the country, particularly with train lines connecting us to cities like Manchester, Nottingham and Birmingham. For car travel, the A6 links Derbyshire to Leicester and Manchester and the M1 takes you south to London or north to Sheffield and Leeds making it an ideal location for visiting friends and family and East Midlands airport is just 30 minutes away. We are in close to the picturesque Peak District National park for those who enjoy walking, climbing, cycling and water activities. For those who love culture there is a good variety of entertainment at Derby Theatre, local gigs, and country houses.
