Who We’re Looking For

This is an ideal opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic veterinary surgeon looking to develop their career in advanced equine imaging — perhaps someone who has completed an internship and is ready to take the next step. We’re looking for a candidate with a solid foundation in equine clinical practice and some prior experience in image acquisition or interpretation (e.g. radiography, MRI, CT or scintigraphy), who is eager to build on this in a supportive and collaborative environment.

You’ll need to be a good communicator, comfortable working alongside senior clinicians and referring vets, and capable of helping manage the day-to-day workflow of an active imaging service. A keen interest in equine lameness and diagnostic imaging is essential, along with a proactive attitude, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to high standards of patient care.

This is a full-time position (45 hours per week), worked Monday to Friday with a typical 1 in 4 weekend on-call rota.

The role has the following key responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage all MRI and CT admissions to the hospital, ensuring appropriate senior support is in place. Provide support with bone scans as required.
  • Liaise with the assigned surgeon or imager to ensure case histories are available, imaging generated is of diagnostic quality, and all necessary images are obtained.
  • Assist in report generation, aiming to complete reports within 24 hours of imaging. Ensure reports are clinically relevant, include management recommendations, and are appropriately illustrated.
  • Evaluate MRI/CT cases as needed, including lameness assessments and relevant treatments, in collaboration with the senior clinician responsible for the case.
  • Communicate effectively with referring veterinarians and clients, keeping them updated on cases and being available for advice and support to both referring and in-house ambulatory vets.
  • Support intern training, ensuring they are able to produce high-quality MRI, bone scan, CT images, and radiographs.
  • Maintain accurate clinical notes in line with practice standards and ensure relevant information is shared with colleagues on joint cases.
  • Ensure client billing is accurate and kept up to date.
  • Take responsibility for imaging equipment, ensuring it is cleaned and left in a serviceable state after use. Report faults to a senior nurse and liaise with Hallmarq in the event of MRI or CT issues.
Out of Hours:

You will be required to attend both booked and emergency imaging admissions during out-of-hours periods, with a typical 1 in 4 weekend on-call rota. There are no requirements for off-site travel during normal working hours (8 am – 6 pm). During these hours, and while on call, you’ll be expected to be available to take incoming calls from the Equine Office.
