The role

As a Vehicle Mechanic, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the UK’s defence capability. You’ll be responsible for servicing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of vehicles and electrical equipment—ensuring they’re ready for action when it matters most. This is a hands‑on role where your skills will directly contribute to national security, while offering you the chance to grow your career in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Day-to-day you’ll be:
  • Carrying out servicing, repairs, and overhauls to meet production requirements
  • Diagnosing, inspecting, and assessing vehicles and associated equipment
  • Completing documentation and test certificates to current standards
  • Ensuring correct use of stores and returning unused or faulty items
  • Creating job cards and requesting materials using ERP (SAP) systems

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role.

Please note that this position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.

This is a full-time, permanent role based onsite at Catterick. The set working times are Monday to Friday, totalling 37 hours per week.

Essential experience of the Vehicle Mechanic:
  • Previous experience in a similar mechanical role
  • Experience in a dealership or local garage
  • Hydraulics experience
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt and build rapport across teams
Qualifications for the Vehicle Mechanic:
  • NVQ Level 3 in Service and Repair or equivalent mechanical qualification

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
