The Role:

We’re looking for a hands‑on Vacuum Systems Technician to play a key role in building, maintaining, and optimising ultra‑high vacuum (UHV) systems, the heart of our cold atom traps and quantum sensors.

This isn’t a “follow the manual” job, you’ll work closely with scientists and engineers, get your hands on complex systems, and help shape the way we design and operate vacuum technology. Start‑up life is challenging and fast‑paced, but the opportunity to make a tangible impact on cutting‑edge quantum devices is enormous.

What You’ll Do:
  • Construct, maintain, and operate complex ultra‑high vacuum systems and chambers.
  • Perform precision tasks such as cleaning, coating, sealing, baking, and testing vacuum components.
  • Operate and maintain in‑house vacuum systems and supporting equipment.
  • Identify technical and operational risks, and implement effective solutions.
  • Keep clear communication with internal teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Create detailed documentation, reports, and presentations to track progress and findings.
  • Support wider company initiatives where your skills are relevant.
What We Are Looking For:
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands‑on experience building, assembling, or prototyping mechanical or electromechanical systems.
  • Analytical thinker with strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and adapt to evolving project needs.
  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn new skills in a fast‑moving start‑up environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
✨ Nice to Have:
  • Experience with vacuum systems, cleanroom procedures, or precision hardware.

No prior vacuum experience? That’s fine, we provide comprehensive training for candidates with initiative, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in quantum engineering.

What We Offer:

💰 Companywide milestone bonus scheme
🌴 26 days annual leave + full salary‑based pension contribution
🕑 Flexible core hours
🤝 Regular team outings, training & knowledge‑sharing sessions
📚 Half‑day knowledge‑building every 2 weeks
