Overview

SBC Subject Teachers deliver high‑quality, inclusive lessons in a multicultural setting. Teachers promote a culture of respect, encourage students to love learning through fun and engaging lessons, and help students become confident, 21st‑century communicators.

The Subject

The University Preparation Programme is a two‑week course that equips students with academic skills and knowledge needed to progress to higher education in the UK. Teachers guide learners in research, essay writing, presentations, and interdisciplinary projects, and provide insight into the UK system, including guidance on UCAS, personal statements, and subject choices.

The Site

Located under an hour from London by train, Folkestone is a coastal town renowned for its vibrant arts scene. Earlscliffe offers a balanced curriculum rooted in 21st‑century skills, and the campus is within a five‑minute walk of picturesque pebble beaches.

Remuneration

Gross £815 per week (weekly in arrears). Holiday pay is 12.07% of basic weekly pay (£727.22); holiday pay element £87.78.

Working Hours

Normal work week: up to 45 hours over six working days. One full day off per week.

Main Duties

General responsibilities include safeguarding, health and safety, flexibility in residential settings, student interaction, emergency assistance, and reflective practice. Teaching duties involve familiarisation with the SBC syllabus, delivering lessons, creating student‑centred environments, assessing work, maintaining administrative records, encouraging participation, attending meetings, and engaging in CPD.

About You

Requirements: undergraduate degree, CELTA/Trinity Certificate/PGCE, experience with children, strong communication, flexibility, empathy, proactive engagement. Desirable: UK boarding experience, EFL teaching in an international environment, strong organisational skills.
