Overview of Role
The role of Transport Supervisor is to have day-to-day operational, budgetary and H&S responsibility for the operation assigned. The individual will be expected to lead the site / operation / area assigned on a day-to-day level, ensuring that targets are met consistently. They will also be expected to be working towards future progression and development within the business and therefore support in areas that help achieve the strategic goals of the depot and wider business.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
- Play an active and engaged part in ensuring both H&S and compliance standards are upheld throughout all areas of the business and operations.
- Provide dynamic and effective leadership and management of the depot / operation / area aligned with site and business-wide strategy.
- Take overall responsibility for delivery service regardless of delivery channels, including the reporting of all relevant KPIs.
- Active delivery and control of all budgetary targets on a daily and weekly basis.
- Ensure necessary resource and controls for the daily operation, ensuring customer demand is met.
- Maintain clear and continual communication channels with all staff.
- Ensure concise communication with all key stakeholders.
Role Specifics
Strategic Responsibilities
- Play an active and lead part in delivering the strategic aims of both the business and the customer.
- Collaborate with colleagues at all levels to ensure all are acting aligned with company values and mission statement.
Communication
- Communicate effectively and professionally in both formal and informal situations.
- Take a proactive role in developing and maintaining regular and structured communication channels with colleagues at all levels.
Service Delivery
- Take overall responsibility for delivery service, regardless of delivery channel.
- Ensure that KPIs and SLA reporting are at the forefront to ensure contractual obligations and customer satisfaction are achieved.
- Where failure occurs, ensure root cause is sought to understand and actions are foolproof to prevent reoccurrence.
Managing People
- Provide advice, guidance and support to all personnel involved, both direct and indirect reports.
- Ensure 1-2-1s with relevant staff are upheld at agreed frequency.
- Uphold and meet company deadlines relating to the appraisal process.
- Take ownership of all HR and welfare process and policies as appropriate.
Planning, Organising and Managing Resource
- Ensure resource is aligned with customer and business forecasts, whilst operating aligned to the budgeted financial targets.
- Provide support to the wider group and business as required to ensure that resource is flexed to match volume and activity.
Teamwork and Motivation
- Recognise the importance of leading by example, demonstrating effectiveness by working productively, creatively and collaboratively within various teams, acting as a responsible team member and meeting agreed deadlines.
- Prioritise workload and deliver an effective service within agreed time frames.

Knowledge & Experience
- 2 years prior experience within a suitable operational environment.
- Undertake relevant staff development as appropriate.

- Ability to both self-motivate and self-manage with autonomy to make decisions and accountability for decisions made and actions of both direct and indirect reports.

Pay: £36,000.00 per year
