Job Description
As Transport Shift Manager you will work collaboratively to ensure effective running of a busy transport operation, ensuring that Operational KPIs are met and that the operations are conducted strictly in accordance with legal requirements, whilst helping to formulate and deliver the short, medium and long‑term resource plans for your area.
Working hours: Any 4 from 7 days, 06:00‑18:00
Key Duties
- Work collaboratively with Myworkforce to ensure compliance of all activities, including resource planning and managing the safety and cost‑effective utilisation of all drivers and equipment.
- Own, monitor and control the driver de‑briefing process to ensure agreed performance standards are consistently achieved.
- Manage and support the driver workforce, ensuring full legal compliance and accurate record‑keeping.
- Conduct employee investigations, grievances and disciplinary actions as required.
- Manage driver performance to achieve or surpass KPIs.
- Promote company Health & Safety and employment policies within the transport operation.
- Ensure all personnel files are up to date, incorporating licence validation, personal details, and completed training.
- Conduct site audits and work closely with the Transport Manager to meet KPIs.
- Support daily operational workflow on the customer site by providing answers to urgent queries.
- Work with the customer and site management team to address performance concerns promptly.
- Recruit permanent and temporary staff to cover business peaks.
- Report accidents, dangerous occurrences and near misses to the H&S team with appropriate documentation.
- Identify and report maintenance and repair issues on site and within the depot.
- Maintain daily vehicle check, vehicle inspection and defect reporting procedures.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a similar transport operations role within an FMCG environment.
- Significant knowledge of tachographs, driving rules and regulations.
- Experience in successful resource management.
- Track record of meeting clearly defined service delivery KPIs.
- Excellent understanding of Health and Safety processes.
- Ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Positive, self‑driven people‑engagement skills.
- Good IT skills, including MS Office, numeracy and attention to detail.
