Your role as a Transport Operations Manager
Overview

We are seeking an experienced Transport Operations Manager to lead and manage transport operations across multiple sites. This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant movement of goods, managing a large fleet and team, and driving operational excellence through effective resource management and continuous improvement.

You will play a key part in delivering high standards of service, maintaining compliance with transport legislation including drivers’ hours and the Working Time Directive, and supporting business growth objectives within a structured Monday to Friday working environment.

Location: NewCold Corby, Curver Way, NN17 5XN. Salary: £55,000.00 (DOE). Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday 42.5 hours (08:00 – 16:30).

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee day‑to‑day transport operations, managing the movement of approximately 10,000 pallets weekly.
  • Lead, motivate and develop a team of drivers and support staff, providing clear guidance and training.
  • Ensure strict compliance with drivers’ hours regulations and the Working Time Directive, mitigating risk of breaches.
  • Manage employee relations matters including disciplinary, grievance and absence procedures in line with employment law and company policies.
  • Utilise IT systems such as Excel, Falcon and Tachomaster for operational tracking, data analysis and reporting.
  • Monitor and manage KPIs, implementing corrective actions to achieve or exceed targets.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to maximise fleet utilisation and respond effectively to customer demands.
  • Develop strategic initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency, reducing costs and enhancing profitability.
  • Maintain a hands‑on leadership style, actively engaging with daily transport activities.
  • Exhibit strong organisational skills to prioritise workloads and allocate resources effectively.
  • Be prepared to work extended hours as required to support business objectives.
Requirements
  • CPC qualification and O Licence holder (mandatory).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in transport operations management or a comparable leadership role.
  • Proven experience managing a sizeable fleet (minimum 50 trucks and 100 trailers).
  • In‑depth knowledge of drivers’ hours regulations and the Working Time Directive.
  • Proficiency in Excel and transport management systems including Falcon and Tachomaster.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, capable of managing a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to make informed decisions under pressure and adapt to evolving operational challenges.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours, including weekend on‑call duties when required.
  • Experienced in handling employee relations issues in line with employment legislation.
