Job description

A caring and ambitious infant school in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire is seeking a teach-ready Trainee Key Stage 1 Teacher to join their team through the Grad2Teach salaried teacher training programme.

This position is ideal for a graduate or career changer who is confident working with KS1 pupils, ready to begin delivering learning activities, and prepared to take on classroom responsibility from the outset.

You will begin in Phase One immediately, completing your Level 4 NCFE Customised Qualification while delivering supported teaching, leading small groups, and gradually taking responsibility for whole-class sessions. Training takes place outside pupil-contact time, ensuring you maximise your impact in the classroom while developing your understanding of the Teaching Standards and Core Content Framework (CCF).

By September, you will transition into Phase Two, where you will hold your own KS1 teaching timetable and begin your PGCE with QTS through Coventry University, teaching independently while completing academic and practice-based training.

This is a perfect opportunity for someone ready to take the next step into full classroom teaching.

About You

We are looking for a high-potential, teaching-ready trainee who is eager to begin delivering lessons quickly and develop into a confident KS1 class teacher.

  • Graduate with experience supporting learning
  • Aspiring teacher ready to lead parts of lessons
  • Teaching assistant or HLTA aiming to progress into teaching
  • Career changer with strong transferable skills and confidence with children

You should demonstrate:

  • Readiness to take on early teaching responsibility
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • A positive, resilient approach to school life
  • Passion for Key Stage 1 and child‑centred learning
  • Willingness to engage in structured training and reflection
Training & Progression
Phase One – Immediate Start (Level 4 Qualification)

You will complete one of Grad2Teach’s NCFE Level 4 Customised Qualifications, depending on your experience, which may include:

  • Level 4 Certificate in Advanced Pre‑ITT Practice
  • Level 4 Certificate in Applied Teaching Techniques

During Phase One you’ll receive:

  • Classroom‑embedded training delivered outside contact hours
  • Mentor support and Grad2Teach tripartite meetings
  • Observations and targeted developmental feedback
  • Professional learning journal and reflective practice
Phase Two – Starting September

From September, you will formally progress into Initial Teacher Training, where you will:

  • Teach independently on your own KS1 timetable (up to 18 hours)
  • Complete weekly PGCE training with Coventry University
  • Undertake university‑led observations, assignments, and ITAP sessions
  • Work towards full PGCE with QTS and 60 Master’s credits

This structured, supported journey ensures you become a confident KS1 teacher with long‑term potential.
