Job summary

A financial services firm in Southampton is looking for a trainee to support their Centre of Excellence service. You'll manage client accounts, perform financial reconciliations, and prepare management accounts and taxes. This role requires an accounting qualification in progress, strong analytical skills, and proficiency in English. While primarily office-based for training and collaboration, there may be some scope for agile working depending on business needs.

Qualifications

  • Must be studying towards an appropriate accounting qualification.
  • ACCA/ACA professional level is desirable.
  • Experience producing management accounts and financial statements is a plus.
  • Knowledge of IFRS or other appropriate accounting standards is required.

Gen II (UK) Southampton Fusion 3, Solent Business Park 4500 Parkway Southampton, WHIT PO157AD, GBR

Within this role, you will be supporting the Centre of Excellence service, delivering the accounting services to the other Gen II offices, also to provide taxation, bookkeeping and accounting support to Private Equity team clients. All in line with the defined business activities. All tasks to be carried out efficiently and effectively, in accordance with Gen II’s procedures.

What you’ll be doing

Your role may include, but will not be limited to, the following tasks which we call ‘Defined Business Activities’. The list of defined business activities is not exhaustive and may be amended from time to time:

  • Responsible for a portfolio of clients;
  • Performing regular banking platform reconciliations and escalating any anomalies;
  • Completing the monthly and quarterly management accounts and bookkeeping;
  • Calculating the Net Asset Value (NAV) of funds on a regular basis, including the valuation of investments and recording of income and expenses;
  • Annual accounts preparation;
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and preparing regulatory filings as needed;
  • Supporting the wider Operations teams with day-to-day tasks, during high volume periods;
  • Preparation of tax computations;
  • Preparation of VAT Returns or VAT Reverse Charge calculations;
  • Communicating with clients and other stakeholders to provide financial information and respond to inquiries;
  • Direct responsibility for monitoring the efficient delivery of our services to each client in their portfolio and, indirectly, the responsibility for maximising the profitability of the client as follows by monitoring own work to ensure timely and efficient completion.

Qualifications
  • Be studying towards an appropriate accounting qualification
    • ACCA/ACA professional level
Experience
  • Direct experience of producing Management accounts and Financial statements*
  • Real Estate or Private Equity fund experience*
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience in keeping the accounting transaction up to date and producing financial statements to IFRS or other appropriate standards for a range of entities*
Knowledge
  • An awareness and understanding of the local finance industry, legislation and regulatory requirements in which we operate*
  • Working knowledge of IFRS or other appropriate accounting standards*
  • Proficient in written and verbal English, with the ability to write concise emails, take meeting notes, and assist in document preparation
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Proactive with good analytical and problem-solving skills
Role Location/Hybrid Schedule

This role is based in our Southampton office. Although the nature of most of the roles within Gen II cannot be classed as totally flexible, there is scope in some cases for a form of Agile Working. The different ways in which Agile Working can be undertaken is dependent on the demands and needs of the business, the office space available and the individual’s preferences and circumstances. For this trainee role, we believe you should be office based to enable training and collaboration with the team.
