Job Title: Thermal Engineer (Background in thermal design and aerodynamic interactions)

Role Description
Anzen is seeking a full-time Thermal Engineer to join our engineering team at our office in London. In this on‑site role, you will innovate and initiate research and development in various heat transfer problem statements for our thermoelectric heat pump. You will look after ideation, concept development, CFD validation, experimental development and validation, design for manufacture and assembly, and supplier management.
Qualifications
- Strong background in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics with previous experience working on heat pumps, heat batteries, chip cooling, thermoelectric modules in any application area ranging from homes to vehicles.
- Ability to perform numerical firsthand calculations to running CFD models for heat transfer problems. Previous experience in R&D roles of developing heat exchangers in rapid iterative design and development of novel approaches to heat transfer problems.
- Experimental design and execution from benchtop test to system level testing
- Background in airflow improvements ranging from first principle design to selection of appropriate fans. Previous experience working on acoustic dampening
- Ability to design for manufacturing and assembly with suppliers, assemblers, and manufacturers.
- Identify, define, and manage work packages to de-risk areas of the product design early in the life cycle, ensuring robust and reliable outcomes.
- Produce detailed technical reports and drawings, supervise detailed design and manufacture, and prepare and manage documentation.
- Be self‑driven in solving complex engineering challenges while working within a growing, motivated team. Work within a multidisciplinary team, promoting a collaborative environment that encourages creativity, innovation, and excellence.
- Thermal Engineering Expertise: Minimum 5 years experience in thermal engineering, heat transfer (using COMSOL/ANSYS), and fluid mechanics.
- Heat Exchanger Design and Validation: Proficient in designing heat exchangers from first principles and performing high‑end validation with suppliers. Experience with new product development design for manufacturing (CAD and FEA).
- First‑Principle Problem Solving: Ability to solve complex thermal and fluid mechanics problems using fundamental principles of thermodynamics and fluid dynamics.
- Experimental Validation: Design and development of experiments to validate digital models. Previously worked on MATLAB and/or python scripts to perform post-processing of results. Experience with sensors, data logging, and building test rigs to validate and identify key challenges in the design.
