The Opportunity

The role of the Therapeutic Family Practitioner is to provide therapeutic interventions and support to children, young people and their families to prevent homelessness, stabilise a young person’s living situation and improve levels of engagement with family, education and their local community. The Therapeutic Family Practitioner will provide counselling, mediation, group work and practical support to whole families to help break the cycle of homelessness.

  • Knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent development and the impact of complex trauma on children and families.
  • Experience and highly developed skills in assessment, family mediation, counselling and conflict resolution techniques with vulnerable children and families.
  • Excellent knowledge, understanding and experience working with parents and children with complex needs who are at risk of homelessness.
    Experience writing clinical documentation, case notes, treatment plans and case plans.

  • Ability to engage complex families and build relationships with them based on honesty, transparency, professionalism and compassion.
  • Empathic approach to young people and their families who are experiencing multiple complex issues.
  • A commitment to working in a strength-based way to build and foster connections and support between young people and their families.
  • Thorough and contemporary understanding of early interventions with young people and families
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands, meet deadlines and work independently.
  • Demonstrate a high level of conflict resolution skills.
  • Well-developed communication and computer skills.
