Test Engineer - Electromagnetic Compatibility

Location: Stevenage, England, United Kingdom

Salary: Up to £55,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 5 days per week on site due to hands‑on testing; working from home available when not testing.

Security Clearance: British Citizen. All successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS).

The Opportunity

The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) department is unique within MBDA, split between a highly skilled test team working in our state‑of‑the‑art EMC facility and a project consultancy team embedded across all projects. This role is part of the EMC Test Team, supporting MBDA programmes throughout the product development cycle—from risk‑reduction test activities to full qualification testing. Your main responsibilities will include performing EMC test activities in line with a Test Plan, producing Test Reports, and executing formal tests in the products’ intended electromagnetic environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform various EMC test activities in line with a Test Plan produced by the EMC Project Team.
  • Produce Test Reports detailing results and analysis.
  • Execute formal tests in the products’ intended electromagnetic environment at the EMC Laboratories.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure good EMC practice and design.
  • Represent MBDA in discussions with customers and influence project teams on EMC qualification.
Essential Qualifications
  • Previous experience in EMC Testing to Defence Standards.
  • Experience using Compliance 5 and EMC 32 Software.
  • Higher education or substantial experience in Electronics, Electrical, Physics, EMC or related fields.
  • Understanding of EMC and design principles.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work to defined deadlines and within budget limits.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Professional manner and adaptability to evolving company needs.
  • Capability to work autonomously to meet delivery needs.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge of military EMC standards (e.g., Defence Standard 59‑41 / 59‑411, AECTP500, Mil‑Std‑461, RTCA DO160 / EUROCAE ED‑14).
  • Experience delivering support around electromagnetic compatibility.
