Technical Manager/Director – Civil & Structural Engineering

Location: Manchester, England, United Kingdom

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the Civil & Structural Engineering team, providing technical and pastoral mentorship to align with individual development goals.
  • Set and implement strategic objectives, driving growth within the Energy sector and contributing to the broader business strategy.
  • Act as the technical authority, providing high‑level guidance and oversight to ensure quality delivery and technical excellence.
  • Engage with key stakeholders – clients, regulatory bodies and industry partners – fostering collaborative relationships and representing our expertise.
  • Oversee project delivery, ensuring deliverables meet or exceed client expectations and maintain project budgets, timelines and risk management.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand Sweco’s market presence and support revenue targets.
  • Represent Sweco at industry forums, conferences and publications, showcasing thought leadership and technical capability.
Key Qualifications
  • University degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (preferably at a higher level and chartered status).
  • Extensive experience (15+ years) in consulting engineering with a proven track record of leadership on complex projects.
  • In‑depth knowledge of Civil and/or Structural Engineering in a consultancy environment, with exposure to onshore wind, solar or BESS advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of influencing a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong project management experience – budgeting, scheduling, risk management and stakeholder coordination – within large‑scale, multi‑disciplinary projects.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK to support teams and clients.
