Position: Technical Delivery Manager

The Technical Delivery Manager is responsible for overseeing and guiding the technical delivery of large, complex projects and programs, ensuring they support the organisation’s business goals and IT strategy.

This role requires strong project management skills underpinned by technical expertise, including end-to-end software development, coding practices (tools, languages, libraries, and integrations), testing methods, and a good grasp of cloud infrastructure and concepts. The Technical Delivery Manager plans, manages, tracks, and reports on project progress, while effectively managing stakeholders and vendor engagements.

This position blends leadership and technical knowledge with a focus on delivering results on time, within budget, and to high quality standards. The Technical Delivery Manager coordinates development teams, quality assurance, product owners, business analysts, architects, DevOps teams, and support to ensure technical solutions are delivered efficiently and risks are identified and addressed early.

This role works with internal and external stakeholders, including Business and IT executives, vendors and BDO Firm partners, to consistently deliver high-quality results aligned to business and IT goals.

Key accountabilities

  • Technical Delivery Leadership
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of major technical projects and programs, ensuring alignment with objectives and strategies.
  • Manage resources, scope, timelines, and budgets to achieve quality and performance targets.
  • Mentor and guide technical delivery teams to comply with standards, governance, and best practices.
  • Maintain high-quality technical documentation for programs and projects.
  • Support strategic planning in line with business requirements.
  • Team Coordination and Collaboration
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless technical delivery.
  • Serve as a liaison between technical teams, senior leaders, and business stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation within technical teams.
  • Manage vendor relationships to support project outcomes.
  • Risk Management and Problem-Solving
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks proactively; escalate issues when needed.
  • Address bottlenecks and dependencies to maintain momentum.
  • Escalate significant risks with actionable recommendations.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting
  • Track program, project, and budget progress using established metrics; provide updates to stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely documentation including plans, risk registers, budgets, and status reports.
  • Analyse outcomes to identify lessons learned and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare and deliver timely reports for forums and meetings.
  • Process Improvement and Innovation
  • Lead continuous improvement to drive efficiency, quality, and scalability in delivery.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and best practices to inform technical strategies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Technology or related field; Masters in a relevant field is advantageous.
  • 7+ years of experience in technical project or delivery management, with a focus on development, infrastructure, or related domains, including people management.
  • Proven track record delivering large-scale, complex technical projects in a cross-functional environment.

Skills and capabilities

  • Demonstrates leadership, teamwork, problem solving, initiative, and integrity; experience managing teams across multiple locations and time zones.
  • Ability to engage with business stakeholders to clarify requirements and manage priorities.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and project coordinators.
  • Experience with third-party vendors and partners on complex IT projects.
  • Understanding of systems, development methodologies, and architecture.
  • Experience transitioning solutions into operational environments.
  • Ability to meet strict project timeframes and balance competing needs while delivering value.
  • Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills; financial literacy to forecast and manage budgets.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills to influence and engage stakeholders.
