Job summary

Teaching Assistant Level 2 (SEND support)

Salary: Grade D, SCP 6 to SCP 11: £25,989 to £28,142 pro rata plus special needs allowance £1,539 pro rata

Hours: Mon- 11am-3.30pm, Tue-Fri- 11.30am-3.30pm 20.5 hours per week, term time only

Contract Type: Fixed Term until 18th December 2026

The Head of School and Governors of this happy and successful school are seeking to appoint a Level 2 Teaching Assistant, to support children in receipt of an EHCP. The role will involve supporting children under the direction of the teaching staff, assisting in the support of classroom management and supervision during break times.

The Teaching Assistant will have:

  • a good understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and the Graduated Response
  • experience of working with children with communication and interaction difficulties and understanding of the value in using visual resources
  • experience of delivering interventions e.g. working memory, zones of regulation and other executive functioning activities
  • knowledge about ASD and how best to support children with a diagnosis
  • knowledge about ADHD and how best to support children with this disorder
  • familiarity of the TEACCH approach to learning for children with ASD
  • a deep understanding of behaviour and how to prevent and manage episodes of negative behaviour
  • strategies to enhancing social interactions during play, lunch and other unstructured times
  • an understanding of sensory processing difficulties and how to support these through sensory circuits and other strategies
  • experience of providing intimate care to pupils with SEND

The Teaching Assistant will:

  • support children’s development (e.g physical, emotional, social, communication and intellectual development needs)
  • liaise effectively with parents face to face and via a communication book
  • provide intimate care following the intimate care plan in place
  • help to keep children safe, including maintaining a safe environment, dealing with accidents, supporting safeguarding
  • encourage children’s positive behaviour
  • contribute to positive relationships with children and adults through communication and interaction
  • provide effective support for colleagues
  • support learning across the curriculum
  • support the use of technology, within Computing lessons and across the curriculum to support pupils’ learning
  • observe and report on performance
  • escort and supervise pupils on educational visits and out-of-school activities
  • contribute to maintaining pupil records
  • contribute to monitoring and maintaining curriculum resources
