We are delighted to offer the chance for a pharmacist to join our team as Specialist Pharmacist Practitioner in Adult Oncology for a period of maternity cover. This role will join an existing team of pharmacist practitioners, embedded within the Oncology MDT in the clinic setting, as an integral part of the Oncology service.
In this role you will work in a specific tumour site, working directly with clinicians and clinical nurse specialists to develop your specialist skills and knowledge, working independently as a practitioner in your specialist area, and responsible for your own caseload of patients.
Main duties
- Provide specialist level patient‑facing clinical service to a defined caseload of patients.
- Review patients in an outpatient clinic setting.
- Prescribe systemic anticancer therapies (SACT) and supportive treatments.
- Initiate, evaluate and modify a range of interventions, including prescribing of medicines.
- Improve standards of care for patients.
- Promote safe and evidence‑based practice.
- Act as a Trust‑wide source of information on matters relating to SACT and the wider speciality; support advanced practitioners and non‑medical prescribers.
- Attend and actively participate in speciality ward rounds, board rounds, clinics and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Provide specialist advice and guidance on prescribing and therapeutics in line with national and local guidelines.
- Critically evaluate published literature and other medicines related information to inform practice and patient care decisions.
- Act as an independent prescriber in a specialist practice area.
- Contribute to the delivery of clinical pharmacy and medicines management services within the Oncology Department.
- Support line management and development of junior pharmacists and Medicines Management Technicians.
- Participate in a 7‑day shifted rota and bank holiday duties, including on‑call and weekend cover.

Person specification
Training & Qualifications
- B.Pharm / BSc (Pharmacy) or MPharm.
- GPhC registered.
- Clinical Diploma or equivalent.
- Member of relevant national specialist pharmacist group.
- Qualified as a pharmacist independent prescriber or working towards.
- Active role in a relevant national network / specialist pharmacist group.
- Holder of office in a relevant national network / specialist pharmacist group.
- Leadership and/or management qualifications.
- Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS).
- Evidence of practice at advanced stage II, as part of the RPS Advanced Pharmacy framework, or working towards credentialing.
Experience
- Extensive post‑registration hospital experience.
- Experience in delivering specialist pharmacist review of people with cancer.
- Experience of delivering clinical pharmacy service and providing advice on safe use of medicines.
- Broad knowledge base of a wide range of clinical areas.
- Experience of line management, recruitment and allocation of staff.
- Experience of developing and implementing medicines and service‑related policies for a specialty.
