Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic team player to join our Paediatrics Dietetic Team at East Sussex Healthcare Trust. You will be part of a supportive, professional team, with opportunities for professional development, supervision, competency training, and postgraduate university funding for MSc modules.

The successful candidate will support a varied paediatric caseload across multiple settings, and will work within a department of over 40 clinicians and associated staff covering paediatrics, diabetes, intensive care, acute rehabilitation, and community nutrition support.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage a clinical caseload in settings including the paediatric ward, special care baby unit, and outpatient clinics.
  • Develop new resources and improve the paediatric dietetics service.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is an exciting, innovative post working in paediatrics across primary and secondary care in East Sussex. Relocation assistance and initial accommodation support are available, as is pastoral care support to aid transition into living and working in East Sussex.

The post is maternity cover for a community paediatric dietitian; remote, hybrid or full time roles may be considered.

Responsibilities include leading and providing expertise to the paediatrics team, managing specialist nutrition and dietetic care of paediatric patients under the supervision of the Lead Paediatric Dietitian, and independently treating patients in acute and community settings.

Person specification
Qualifications
  • 4‑year degree in Dietetics or equivalent.
  • Current State Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Evidence of continued professional development to Masters level or equivalent.
  • Postgraduate training in behavioural change techniques.
  • Teaching certificate.
Experience
  • Minimum of two years in general dietfff practice and two years in a specialist area.
  • Undertaking new patient assessment and treatment.
  • Conducting patient and health professional group education.
  • Training of student dietitians.
  • Computer‑aided dietary assessment.
  • Working in a community-based setting.
  • Optimising nutrition prescribing.
Skills
  • Knowledge of current dietetics issues and research, sound clinical knowledge.
  • In‑depth knowledge of paediatric nutritional products, enteral feeds, medications, and drug‑nutrient interactions.
  • Effective, accurate communication, verbally and in writing.
  • Discretion and sensitivity when conveying emotional information.
  • Teaching and supervisory skills at one‑to‑one and group levels.
  • Time‑management to organise and prioritise clinical caseloads.
  • Ability to travel independently between sites efficiently.
  • Knowledge of currentulang NHS policies and initiatives.
  • Statistical interpretation and analysis.
