The Role

We are seeking a talented and motivated Civil Assistant Solicitor (3+ years PQE) to join their expanding Civil Department. You will be part of a dynamic team working on high-profile, sensitive and complex cases that attract national attention and often lead to lasting reform.

Your caseload will include:

  • Public and Fatal Accident Inquiries (FAIs)
  • Civil claims arising from deaths in custody, hospital, or institutional care
  • Clinical negligence and serious or catastrophic injury cases

You'll manage your own caseload with the support of senior colleagues and work closely with the Head of Department on ground breaking litigation that makes a real difference to families and communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handle civil litigation cases relating to deaths in custody, clinical negligence, and serious injury.
  • Represent clients in Public Inquiries and FAIs.
  • Conduct court appearances at Sheriff Court level (and higher where required).
  • Provide expert legal advice and maintain excellent client relationships.
  • Collaborate with the wider team while working autonomously to meet case milestones.
  • Supervise and support junior colleagues where appropriate.
About You

We are keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate:

  • 3+ years PQE in civil litigation, ideally with personal injury or clinical negligence experience.
  • Exposure to public inquiries or fatal accident inquiries (highly desirable).
  • Strong advocacy skills and experience with court procedures in Scotland.
  • Excellent client care skills and the ability to handle sensitive, high-profile matters.
  • A proactive, motivated approach with strong attention to detail and time management.
