Your New Role…

WBD Sports encompasses a wide range of sports brands and channels, reaching over 130 million people monthly in more than 200 markets and 20+ languages. Our key brands include Bleacher Report, Eurosport and TNT Sports. WBD Sports offers a comprehensive coverage of major sports events, like the Olympics in Europe, tennis Grand Slams and road cycling Grand Tours (e.g., Tour de France) across various platforms, including TV and streaming services like Max and Discovery+. Additionally, it manages and promotes 55 global events annually. TNT Sports UK features exclusive live sports such as the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

As we continue to grow and innovate in a fast-paced, competitive digital environment, we are seeking a Software Engineer Level II, who will be a key member of the WBD Global Sports Tech team, responsible for building and maintaining systems supporting Warner Bros. Discovery’s family of Sports products/brands, mainly Bleacher Report. You will work closely with Product/Project Managers, Users, Development Staff and fellow Software Engineers to develop and deploy fan-facing solutions.

Technical Environment:
  • Tech Stack: TypeScript, Node.js, Golang
  • Development Practices: TDD, code reviews, continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD)
  • Deployment: Automated deployment to AWS using Github Actions
  • Technologies Used: GraphQL backend, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ
  • Agile Practices: Daily standups, sprint planning, story refinement, retrospectives
Your Role Accountabilities:
  • Contribute to key initiatives supporting the developer workflow from PR to release
  • Innovate and deliver technical solutions
  • Collaborate with partner engineering teams for inputs, support, and guidance
  • Document technical solutions and articulate them to both business and technical audiences
  • Present, communicate, and advocate engineering perspectives
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and show ownership of work throughout the sprint process
Qualifications and Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience in TypeScript and modern JavaScript - including type systems and advanced language features
  • Experience with building GraphQL and REST APIs
  • Experience building and maintaining distributed systems
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)
  • Proficiency in Unit, Functional Testing & TDD is highly preferred
  • Ability to create functional-level impact and deliver complex features with little to no oversight
  • Effective communication skills as exemplified by technical documentation deliverables, and stakeholder and adjacent teams interactions
  • Fluency in English is a must
Bonus Skills:
  • Experience with AWS
  • Experience with Federated GraphQL API
  • Experience with Golang
  • Experience with non-relational databases (e.g., DynamoDB, MongoDB)
  • Familiarity with build tools (e.g., Rush, Heft, Docker) and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with Kubernetes or ECS
